THE REVERENT WITNESS OF MEANINGFUL MOMENTS

The weight of November's damp fog renders distant street lamps
close,
the windows of the house opposite like distant constellations.

And there is more, myriad syllables
the unborn brood of their potential worlds.

As if I were standing here in the fog like the first being
rising with secret intention to earth from the ooze

onto a rock hidden by the primordial sea and I were slowly
curling my tail into the first word.

Except then it might have been a beginning yet more silent.

Bright water beads

Behind the window

Deep gouges in the middle of the...

Then you started explaining again

I can not sleep even though I...

The weight of November's damp fog

This afternoon, I cut my finger

The next psalm after the last

Confession in wedding garb
